Owners Lea and Damien are a couple from the French Basque Country. Lea is trained in traditional sourdough baking, French patisserie, and boulangerie in the Basque Country and the centre of France. Damien studied classic French cuisine in Lyon after working in the service industry. Together they dreamed of one day owning their own bistrot and boulangerie.
They arrived in Malmö in January 2022 and have been developing the Dame Ginette vision since that time, patiently waiting for the right moment to bring it to life.
Our name comes directly from Lea’s grandmother, Ginette herself. The daughter of a baker, following in her family’s footsteps, she worked for many years in their boulangerie. We strive to keep her spirit alive in our love of well-made food and warm welcome. Dame Ginette was created as a place to eat well, slow down, and feel at home — just like at Grandma Ginette’s table.
In early 2024, we discovered a unique location at Östra Förstadsgatan 18, nestled in the vibrant Slussen district of Malmö. The space boasts large windows that flood the interior with natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional French bistro.
The building’s rich history adds to its charm. Originally part of the industrial expansion in the late 19th century, the area has been transformed into modern establishments, preserving the area’s heritage while embracing contemporary design.
Today, Dame Ginette in Slussen stands as a testament to their journey, a place where tradition meets modernity, and every detail reflects their passion for French food and culture.
